Malaga Metro Tickets and Prices
Ticket Type | Price per Journey |
---|---|
Single Journey Ticket (Billete Ocasional) | €1.35 |
Metro Malaga Rechargeable Card (Tarjeta Monedero de Metro de Málaga) | €0.82 |
There are a two different ticket options when using the Metro in Malaga, and it all depends on how frequently you are planning to use it.
1. Single One-way Tickets
Single One-way tickets on the Malaga Metro cost €1.35. You aren’t able to buy cheaper return tickets, with each trip costing the same.
These paper tickets can be loaded with 1-9 journeys, and used by more than one person if you have enough single tickets loaded onto it.
2. Metro de Malaga Rechargeable Travel Card
In order to save money on the Malaga Metro, I’d recommend purchasing/using one of the rechargeable cards known as Tarjeta Monedero de Metro de Málaga.
With the card it brings down the cost to €0.82 per journey, it offers a cheaper fare compared to the Single Journey Ticket priced at €1.35.
NOTE: From January 1st 2024 to December 31st 2024, the Malaga local government has set the price of people using the card on the metro to just €0.33 in an effort to boost the city’s transport system.
You can also use the card on the Bus transport system, bringing the cost of a bus single down to €0.66.
This card can be topped up to €20 at metro station vending machines, and there’s a minimum top-up of €5. You only need one card per group (you can share the usage).
Where to Buy Malaga Metro Tickets
The best, and easiest way to purchase Malaga Metro tickets is using the self service ticket machines that you can find in every station
Some of the larger stations also have ticket offices with actual staff there to assist you with any problems
Unfortunately there are no options to buy Malaga Metro tickets online.
For more information visit the Official Malaga Metro Website.

Malaga Metro Routes
The Malaga Metro system has two lines: Line 1 (L1) and Line 2 (L2).
Line 1 connects the suburban areas to the city centre, with stops close by to the main attractions such as the university and main shopping districts.
The most popular stop on Line 1 is El Perchel, where you can get off for attractions such as the Alcazaba, Malaga Cathedral, and the Picasso Museum.
Line 2 has some crossover with line 1 such as El Perchel, but also heads to the more southern areas, includign access to Malaga beaches!
